The spam and anti-spam world is an ongoing battle. Whenever anti-spammers find out a way to block spam, spammers will find a way to get around it.

This option will add a little check on spammers, but is unlikely to be 100% in blocking spammers from signing up. Other efforts will have to go into creation of plugins that handle additional spam blocking.
